Women's Living Expo

Now that I am back from my trip to Europe, I am starting to develop ideas for my booth at a trade show where I will be exhibiting in October; the Women's Living Expo in Colorado Springs features products and services that are of interest to women. As I specialize in juvenile and baby designs, I will be showing images suitable for murals as well as scrap-booking products.

Musée De L'Elysée

Today I visited another museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Musée de L'Elysée. This one is entirely dedicated to photography; the theme of this particular show is "adolelesence"; the photographs of young people were created by European as well as America Artists. If it had not been pouring with rain I would have gone into the Olympic Museum next door and walked to the lake from there.

Paul Klee Museum

The new Paul Klee museum in Bern, Switzerland is on the outskirts of town, in a mordern building, constructed to hold the vast collection of the artist's work; this summer the collection was not on display, because the foundation is working on a new show; I took advantage of being there to purchased quite a few postcards to use as research; I also found out that Klee's pieces are difficult to preserve, as many of them were painted on cardboard and burlap, hence the wonderfull textures.

WaterFire Providence

While visiting my Designer friends in New England, I was lucky enough to attend a "WaterFire" event on Saturday night in Providence, Rhode Island. The artist, Barnaby Evans created the event which consists of fires burning on the rivers after dark, while esoteric music is played, creating a visceral experience for the thousands of onlookers. An incredible experience. Several other cities have licensed the rights, and put on the event in their towns.

My trip to Switzerland

This week I am taking off on a trip to Boston, followed by Switzerland, and have a wonderful book to read and study on the plane; " I'd rather be in the studio" by Alyson B. Stanfield. Summer Splash 2008

last night I attended the opening of the Colorado Springs Arts Guild art show. Local artists were showing their work, one of my friends Laura Gangi Pond was showing two pieces of photography; I particularly liked the cowboy image. The venue was the Warehouse Restaurant and Gallery where a few of us had a really good dinner and a lot of laughs after the show.

I usually exhibit my work at national design shows, but some of my pieces could transition into fine art as "mixed media".

Floral Mural

This project was really fun; I painted a mural in my bedroom as a sample, as I am expanding my business into new areas of juvenile art. Simple shapes arranged in a playful way around the window are working well in a small room; I will update my blog as I paint new areas of the house.

Last week I hosted a garden tour at my home, which was part of a tour of six gardens in our Historic neighborhood. My specialty is using plants that do well with little water, as I live in a semi-arid region.

A good book to read about this is "Xeriscape Colorado" by Connie Ellefson and David Winger.

The pieces at the CAI show

The two promotional pieces were shown at the Ink Lounge Gallery in Lakewood, Colorado during the month of May. The exhibit was the Colorado Alliance of Illustrator Annual show, and the venue was a really interesting choice. The gallery is run by two graphic designers who specialize in printmaking, and create exiting work.

African Animals

The African Animals painting is now displayed in Mountain Moppets, a children's boutique in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The acrylic on canvas image emulates murals as well as wall decor. The store is in a charming historic part of the city, and carries unique clothing.
